Let’s Talk Lippies

Hey bestie!! It’s been a WHILE since I’ve posted a blog, but I’m back like I never left! I took a break from writing, started crushing some personal goals for the start of 2021 and celebrated a HUGE birthday (DIRTY 30 HERE!! More on that later.)!! Life has been lovely, and I’m ready to get back into writing. I’m excited to start sharing more of my favorite beauty and self care products and tips! I’m ready to jump back in and today felt like the perfect day for it… here’s why:

Exactly one year ago I saw myself on the Too Faced website for the first time. I was making the most of quarantine by participating in #SocialDistanceSpiritWeek on Instagram. On #FavoriteLipstickDay I posted some photos wearing the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Lady Balls.” I almost didn’t even post the picture they ended up sharing. It was a selfie type picture, no backdrop or extra lighting, just a cute smiling selfie with a bomb red lip. I posted and tagged them (because why not lol.. We’re trying to get seen out here okay?!). Next thing I know they were asking to share and boom, I was on their site! That was one of my favorite days ever. As a beauty influencer and makeup lover, it feels amazing to have big brands see and recognize your work. There are so many beautiful faces out there trying to get the attention. To stand out in the crowd is an amazing feeling! I’ll never forget how excited I was to see myself there and how motivated I was to make that the first of many appearances. Soooo, what better day than today to write about my favorite lippies?! I get asked for product recommendations a LOT, so here we go!

Red Lips

Y’all know I LOVE red lips. They’re classic and unmatched in my opinion. When in doubt, the lip is red. As I mentioned above, Too Faced Lady Balls is my all-time favorite. Every time I wear it, I’m gauranteed to get compliments. Ladies love it. Men love it. I’m not really sure if it’s the color or my demeanor when I wear it... but whatever it is, the people love it lol.

Honorable mentions:

  • Pat McGrath Liquilust Revelation Red- Black owned business and #AuntiePat doesn’t MISS! I don’t think this particular shade is still available, but she does have a new red called Elson. Pat McGrath products can be a little pricey, but I’m all for black-owned luxury, so hmph!

  • Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in 01- Always Red- This was my first ever red liquid lippie. I remember wearing it for the first time thinking, “I hope these people don’t think I look crazy.” Branching out and trying bolder makeup can be nerve-wrecking, but if you OWN it?! There’s a new confidence that comes with it.

All of these have a very creamy formula when applying and dry down matte. The best part about liquid lipsticks is that they don’t move. You can eat, drink and live in the lip without it ending up all over your face. With that being said, you don’t want to put them on dehydrated lips. If your lips are moisturized, you won’t have to worry about your lippie feeling or looking super dry.  I almost always apply a balm of some sort before I start my makeup if I’m planning to wear a liquid lipstick. That gives my lips time to moisturize before applying the lipstick. Once I finish the rest of my face, I wipe away any residue of the balm before applying the lipstick. You want the lipstick applying directly to your lips so it will stay put all day!

Vampy Vibes

If I’m not wearing a red or nude lip, you can almost bet it will be a vampy dark red or purple. Dark lips give that grown and sexy vibe. Like I mentioned above, something a little bold will change up your whole attitude, so wear it wisely!

  • My go-to here is the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in “Wine Not.” It’s a perfect dark purple that gives you vampy vibes without being TOO dark. It’s a good first step towards a darker lip.

  • If you’re ready to dive right in, I’d recommend MAC Satin lipstick in Cyber. Cyber was my first vampy lipstick so it holds a special place in my heart haha!

  • Another great super dark purple is Pat McGrath’s MatteTrance Lipstick in Deep Void. Deep Void is the darkest of the three.. Love, love, LOVE it!

Okay so we’ve covered my top three lip colors and some of my favorite brands and go-to products! Have you tried (or do you want to try) any of the lippies I mentioned? Did I miss any of your faves? Comment below and let me know what else I should add to this list! I’m always looking for new favorites!

As I mentioned above, I know some of these can be a little pricey, depending on your budget. If you see a shade that you like, but want something more budget friendly, I’d recommend doing a quick Google search with the product you like + dupe. (Dupe: a duplicate of a higher end product at a lower price point.) Almost everything has a dupe these days. Drug store companies will develop shades similar to popular high end products. It’s a great way to experiment with new colors without the commitment of spending $35 for one lipstick. Everybody wins!
